Eating Seasonally
September 12, 2025
I want to introduce you to my amazing cooking teacher – Pamela Salzman . I host a cooking class at my house with close friends once a month with Pamela. She teaches us about seasonal, organic, cooking and has so many amazing tips about nutrition and overall health. She believes in a whole foods-based diet, which means buying and preparing food that our bodies recognize as natural. That means no processed food! Below are some of her pointers for healthful eating.
• Eat as many whole foods as possible.
• Eat a wide variety of food.
• Eat as much organic food as you can afford or find.
• Cook as much as possible to control what goes into your food and to impart your loving energy into the food you serve.
• Eat seasonally.
• Shop locally.
• Listen to your body.
Our great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents ate seasonally because they had no other choice. But what they may not have known is that nature gave them exactly what they needed at exactly the right time. Greens help detoxify us in the spring. Fruit cools and hydrates us in the summer. Root vegetables ground us and keep us warm during the fall. And animal protein can insulate and warm us through the winter. Now that we have all kinds of produce available year round, we’ve lost the guidance for what to eat when. Eating locally-grown food is a great way to eat seasonally without actually having to know what’s in season and will help you live in harmony with yourself, your body, and nature. XXJKE
